for the endgame a good program would need of course more endgame knowledge to solve the positions. i do not really understand your problem. maybe the program you used was not that perfect and relied to much on a heavy search. s8 and s9 heavily use the search. i would not quote them as a reference in such a topic. i am sure you will find programs evaluating better.
