I was operating CM6000 in a weekend 7 round swiss a number of years back. By
winning its last round game, it would have taken out the tournament ahead of
many of the country's top players.
The time control was 30 minutes for the game and I would adjust the time setting
for CM6000 during the game depending on circumstances as I didn't trust the
program to handle this time control well, moving too quickly in the formative
part of the game (opening and early middlegame). This was okay with the TD and
the opponents were aware too.
CM6000 was on top, but the opponent was blitzing and time was running low. I
erred when changing the time setting and CM6000 starting moving instantly,
throwing away the win and the game, much to the amusement of spectators.
Graham left feeling very embarrassed and disappointed! A great computer chess
victory thrown away!
