I only look for the pm and the expected response to the pm. So for me, Shredder
is best.

Oddities late in the pv are not unusual for any chess program. Some are
probably better than others. At any rate, looking beyond the actual search
depth is a sure cause for disaster with many chess engines and is not to be
trusted.

The ChessMaster "verbal analysis" -- I forget exactly what it's called -- offers
the most human understandable analysis (for me at least).

1. ChessBase dies with 2+ GB databases (or I have had that experience)
2. I do lots of EPD analysis. Chessbase cannot write out EPD records
3. Speed and size (CA is faster and compresses better).
4. I like the Chess Assistant team (I know some of them from emails). I don't
really have any interaction with the ChessBase team except that my feature
requests are not acted upon.

I like some things about ChessBase (e.g. the Elo calculation feature is nice).

I do not know what most prefer. Sort of like the famous quote:
'I don't know about art, but I know what I like.'
