This should be the most obvious question, but I don't remember it ever being asked or dealt with very deeply. What drew us to chess? and What drew us to computer chess? What makes it intriguing for us? This question has been constantly bothering me, because I've often felt that others have different answers to me, and I can't really guess what they are. In a way, I could say that for me Chess is intriguing because I like to see how much I can thni like a machine. This is a challenge, because there are always oversights which make you feel a fool. I also loved to try and and find such wierd things which other humans might think is bad, but in truth work out to be the best moves, as if I was some kind of wizzard machine. Computer chess is intriguing because I already know it's a machine, but It's intriguing to see if it can go so deep and be so wise as to see things which only an imaginitive human might think of. That is indeed a very intriguing thing, because since it is the computer which is playing...like a (nutty) human.... you can trust that it is actually the truth too! I havn't often got full satisfaction of my desires with either, so far! S.Taylor
