Here is a quote from Alex Schmidt's website:

<snip>
There are around 200 engines available. Some are really strong, some play very
interesting chess. Don’t judge the engines only by engine tournaments. Some are
created to play a human or interesting style, some to play against humans.
You will find also weaker engines to have a beatable opponent. I don’t like
handicap levels of chessprograms. It’s like to play against a GM and
say:”simulate a Elo 1600 player”
<end snip>

I'd like to obtain a "beatable" but amusing opponent for my little nephiew
(9 years old), who doesn't play chess very well yet. Yes, there are a few
strong engines with personality settings, like Crafty Classic 2004 or
ProDeo. I just like to try out some engines that are created to "play against
humans", according to Alex Schmidt.
