CM is a Winboard engine, and so you can play it inside of lots of interfaces (e.g. Jose, SCID, Winboard, Arena, Chess Assistant...). CM is very inexpensive, and so you can get a copy for the price of lunch out. There are some big CM fans, and they get others passionate about it. John Merlino worked on CM, and he's a nice guy and fairly popular around here. Probably lots more reasons too.
