I have one of those "old-fashioned" message boards, but it keeps threads together; a new message can bring the whole thread (intact) to the top of the board or just the new message; it displays view counts for messages etc. It also allows users to display chess diagrams by including a FEN string in their messages (similar to here, but without the [D]). What sets it apart from other message boards I have seen is that all the diagrams automagically become playable. Even if a message contains several diagrams all of them become playable. Only legal moves are allowed. This is still in beta and some planned functionality is missing (take back moves; update FEN string above board after each move; promotion is not yet implemented etc.). For an example message with several diagrams see here: http://skak.hornid.com/cgi-bin/index.pl?noframes;read=29746
