Hi. I bought the 'STRATOS' chess computer in 1986. It was the strongest of the 'Kasparov' chess computers that came out around that time. It is a chess board, with LEDs along the files and ranks, and also has a small LCD display to show what it's thinking. You press a piece down on the squares to activate switches beneath the board. While it plays a reasonable game compared to some I've tried, (it beat every chess program I put it up against around the time I bought it), including Sargon 2, Colossus Chess, and earlier versions of Chessmaster, it simply doesn't cut the mustard up against today's top programs. Chessmaster on the Playstation 2 creams it on every level, even with Chessmaster moving straight away and Stratos taking 10 minutes per move. Still, I think it might be worth something one day as an antique. Can anyone tell me if chess-board computers like STRATOS are still being made, or if chess programs now only appear for computers / consoles? Also, would a chess computer like Stratos be worth keeping, perhaps because of the fact that they are not being made like that anymore?
