The Shredder we were speaking of was the UCI offering. This is Stefan's own protocal that he created. He had the ablility to supply the Neechi book to all the people who purchased his program to use where ever they wanted, but instead chose the route to lock them into _his_ interface for optimal playing strength. Fritz/Junior/Hiarcs have _always_ used the Chessbase book format and interface. They have _never_ offered a single version that supported more than one processor, unless it was their "Deep" offerings. Stefan had this in Shredder 7 and 8, but took it away in a cash grab for Shredder 9. It is really just that simple. >Fritz and Junior do not give dual support for the same money and I see no >reason to prefer them. You are correct. They _never_ have. Stefan did, then took it out to make more money. >I do not see a reason to prefer a programmer that never gave something and not >a programmer that in the past gave it and stopped to give it. > >Uri Sure there is. The fact that Fritz/Hiarcs/Junior have _always_ had the same structure is important. They never offered something to a customer, then took it away for the simple reason of making more money. Stefan even took the UCI version of Shredder out of the Chessbase offering, and the only logical reason is to _make more money_. If you want the UCI version, you have to buy it from _him_. He is simply optimizing his earning potential and while in the real world there is nothing wrong with that, he has pissed off his consumer base. He has also done _nothing_ to rectify that. He simply doesn't care. For him it is no longer about the game, it is about the money. The writing is on the wall.. some just don't want to read it. Peter
