Skaki and Averno both have source available for some versions.

Averno is MUCH stronger than Skaki.

It is not at all surprising for two engines to have the same evaluations (or
highly similar evaluations).

Consider the WAC test. Strong engines will get 285/300 or better even at 5
seconds time control. These engines have completely different evaluation
functions. They have completely different internal workings.

That is 95% of the same moves chosen.

So choosing the same moves is not a good indication of cloning.

I have Averno source code up to version 0.40.
I have also Skaki source code.

They are highly dissimilar.
Skaki consists of 12 CPP files and is about 200K.
Averno 040 consisted of 37 C files and was about 900K.

You are barking up the wrong tree here.
