I have noticed that after every ply iteration Junior 5 'pauses' and displays something like '7. --' in the move being considered window. The pause can be for as long as 5 seconds - especially in tactical positions. AFAIK no other program does this - at least not for as long. Does anyone know what it is doing? Could it be updating it's piece-square tables based upon the last iteration? What new information could it be assimilating. Is it doing some form of Null move at the root? I cann't see the benefit of this. Regards Steve Maughan
