I would love to own one of those big beautiful wooden sets.... a Mephisto Munchen would be the cat's whiskers. Alas, I could never afford one. The best dedicated machine I ever owned was produced in a stylish wood-veneer plastic. It was the Novag Forte A. Hehehe... And now, THE QUESTION! I now own a Hanimex HCG1900. It looks identical to the Chess 2001, or Euro ComputaChess Champ from your pics. Its exactly the same chassis with red and gold squares. On the underside is an access plate. Under the plate is a chip badged "Copyright 1983 Newcrest Technology Ltd Hong Kong" and is an 8330X7. Can you tell me who the author is? It apparently achieved good results in the European Championship sometime around 1981 (not sure exactly which year). I've been vaguely looking for this information for almost twenty years. True! Hope you can help. Curious ComputaChess Regards, Ross
