I know that there are lots of small books that >have been done but what about God's opening book? About 2 hours per position would be needed, at least. That is if Shredder were used. Much more time would be needed for a run-of-the-mill chess engine. Chess programs have the most problems in closed positions. Look at this: [D]rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - Here is some computerized analysis of chess positions: ftp://cap.connx.com/pub/Public_CAP_Results/Brainy/brainy.epd.bz2 Chess Assistant has many times that much analysis. You will be truly horrified to know that they have minimaxed it as well.
