This is the guy who told you backsolving can be useful: http://www.badbishop.com/gambit/books/modanalysis.html Mathematically, I know that it has value to improve the computed weight of an opening, given either won/loss/draw information or computer scores for the related nodes. If the time to backsolve is a concern to you, then backsolve when you go to bed, and have a peek in the morning.
