agree with that.
that's 40 ply, quite deep already.
and even before these endnodes, there might be some
hidden novelties, yet better lines, which yet
have not been detected.

to be honest, i've been busy with some 10 yrs now
with backsolving (with Bookbuilder 3.6 i can do
a quite fast complete minimax of my book
with 13 million positions), but have not
achieved very much, except a repertoire
which i use with my accounts Kec(C) on Fics
and bookbuilder(C) on Icc.
with it i could achieve a nr 1 position in
ranking if i continoulsy would invest in one of
the fastests comps and the latest top-engine(s),
with all the endgame tricks as well,
like currently Shredder 9.

let me give a little hint on this repertoire
(won't specify it in all detail, as i'm
writing a paper on it); with white: 1e4,
with black against d4: queens indian or nimzo-indian.
against e4: najdorf.

especially the latest variant (najdorf) have
pointed out to me clearly the limitations of
backsolving. there are many new roads to
discover against the najdorf, we don't know
yet what is the best strategy for white,
english attack (Be3), or simply Be2, or
Fischer/Sozin/Lipnitzky (Bc4).
it is a very complicated variant.
yet a solid defence.
just as the closed Ruy Lopez, Chigorin/Keres/
Karpov, etc. variants..

so why prefer e4 above d4?
well d4 is a draw you know..
:)
best regards,
jef
