just a quick reaction, On May 18, 2005 at 22:22:50, Komputer Korner wrote: >You should restrict your >backsolving to no later than the 20th move in most lines agree with that. that's 40 ply, quite deep already. and even before these endnodes, there might be some hidden novelties, yet better lines, which yet have not been detected. to be honest, i've been busy with some 10 yrs now with backsolving (with Bookbuilder 3.6 i can do a quite fast complete minimax of my book with 13 million positions), but have not achieved very much, except a repertoire which i use with my accounts Kec(C) on Fics and bookbuilder(C) on Icc. with it i could achieve a nr 1 position in ranking if i continoulsy would invest in one of the fastests comps and the latest top-engine(s), with all the endgame tricks as well, like currently Shredder 9. let me give a little hint on this repertoire (won't specify it in all detail, as i'm writing a paper on it); with white: 1e4, with black against d4: queens indian or nimzo-indian. against e4: najdorf. especially the latest variant (najdorf) have pointed out to me clearly the limitations of backsolving. there are many new roads to discover against the najdorf, we don't know yet what is the best strategy for white, english attack (Be3), or simply Be2, or Fischer/Sozin/Lipnitzky (Bc4). it is a very complicated variant. yet a solid defence. just as the closed Ruy Lopez, Chigorin/Keres/ Karpov, etc. variants.. so why prefer e4 above d4? well d4 is a draw you know.. :) best regards, jef
