Very good thought!

In the rest of the gameplaying world when you start a program for the first time
it sets itself to either beginners level or an average level.

In chessprogram its normal to have the program adjusted to maximum level when
first started, and I have been wondering why. It gives the novice a hard time
before he has worked enough with the program to understand how to adjust it to
get a pleasant game, while the expert can start playing it out of the box.

Chessmaster is the exeption to this since they have managed to please both the
beginner and the expert.

(other have answered you real question)
