Yes the Fritz GUI offers a predefined value for the hash size. But it's optimistic, taking most of your free RAM. Computerchess experts usually use safe values which leave more RAM free for the system, which, believe it or not, may require more later than Fritz thinks. Then, the swapping problem which you describe would occur. Also, values of i.e. 64,128,256 MB are usually chosen (or 48,96,192 with Tiger), not just the - in the moment - maximum size which Fritz offers as preset, as these are not reliably safe. So, please just don't use the preset hash size, reduce it and you have no problems, as everybody has recommended. I saw your remarks of "novice knowledge" about another reply, but to be honest, YOU are constantly reporting problems nobody else who is somewhat fit with chess software, has. And you seem to be very "resistant" against advice you have asked for, yourself. Just an observation, no offense! :-) But one or two more of that kind of postings, and people will start to believe you're a troll... Steve
