It seems some of the strongest players of all time stated that chess was essentially a draw (Lasker, Capablanca etc.) I think that among the strongest players it's an accepted fact. They could literally (barring the occasional human error) draw every game. But, lucky for us, their opponents either make a mistake, or they themselves press in an attempt to win, introducing both winning and losing chances. But, as you seem to know better than the great champions, I'll leave you to believe whatever you wish to believe. :o)
