While the term Rare can be a subjective one and indeed one Collector's notion of Rarity can differ from another , and a computer can be considered rare in one country while not in another, still i think most collectors would agree on some basic notions for a dedicated computer to be considered rare it should: 1)Not have been released in great quantities(generally less then 1000 units) 2)If released in larger numbers ,then there are very few that exist of that model today in working condition 3)very few known collectors have one(or will admit to having one) and to update the definition for this Internet age... 4The computer has not appeared on Ebay or if so..very seldomly it should be noted that price or value has no place in the definition this is to say, that a computer can be rare but not of great value and like wise a very expensive computer does not necessarily indicate Rarity an example of this would be the Tasc R30..A very expensive computer but one would be hard pressed to consider it rare Kurt has a rare page where he tries to establish a numerical system giving weights to quantity, price ,cosmetic appearance etc.: Rare Page http://www.schachcomputer.at/rar.htm numerical weighting system: http://www.schachcomputer.at/Bewertungssystem.htm however some computers are shown that are not rare and some rare computers are not listed Kurt himself considers the page to be more of a listing of very unique or interesting computers rather then strictly rare my list does not include privatly modified computers or Prototypes . the lust is in no particular order of rarity Omikron Bogol 5.0 Fidelity Elite Avant Guarde(Versions 5,8 and 10)-considered as one for this list Applied Concepts (Sandy) TBS 4 La Regence CLJ L'Emperour Tasc R40 Novag Robot Adversary Mephisto Wonder Machine Conchess Victoria Plymate(with Victoria opening book module) Peri Epsilon Russian Mattel(possibly the Rarest portable) Best Steve
