I was wondering what sort of battery life people are getting out of the Palm Zire 21 when they run an Arm native program such as Hiarcs or Chess Genius and set it to a level comparable to the Excalibur units such as the Deluxe Talking Touch Chess? Maybe through a combination of underclocking the Palm and selecting a short thinking time? In the past I found that the battery life when running Chess Tiger on an old Sony Clie was fairly short. Maybe a matter of a couple of hours. (It's been a while) The display is nice, but if using a real board and pieces I would sacrifice display quality for battery life. The low-end Excalibur units have an insane battery life, but are missing many features compared to say Hiarcs. I found the first LCD chess to be practically unusable due to difficulties that I had with move entry, but this is probably fixed in the touch chess. My assumption is that the Arm native programs would be more efficient since no energy would be wasted on emulation. Maybe this is not true. If underclocking helps preserve battery life, what is the preferred utility these days? (Maybe just engine settings are sufficient?) Regards, Keith
