In the debate around Fafis I made a statement (http://www.talkchess.com/forums/1/message.html?428577) that an old version of Crafty would be able to use the renamed Fafis-book to play book moves. Today I got an email from someone unable to reproduce that behaviour on his computer. Well, to make it short, I was in error: Crafty isn’t able to use the Fafis book. When I made this 'test' I replaced the crafty book Book.bin with the renamed Fafis Book but simply forgot to delete the small second book file Books.bin which Crafty also seems to use to play book moves. I wasn't aware of that till I read the help files today (was aware of Bookc.bin though). This old version (13.10) of Crafty only checks if the files named Book.bin and Books.bin are present in the same folder but not if the files are valid because replacing Book.bin with an empty file produces the same behaviour. So the book moves were obviously played by Books.bin from Crafty and not by the renamed Fafis-book Book.bin. I apologize for releasing such missleading and false information in the Fafis-debate.
