Yes I sent that mail. I confirm your observation. I've uploaded a corrupted book.bin and books.bin on my website. If someone wants to make the test too: http://volker-pittlik.name/temp/book.bin (corrupted, 1KB), http://volker-pittlik.name/temp/books.zip (generated from an old start.pgn, 2KB). This books only work with version 13.10. Now I feel a bit uncomfortable. Your alleged finding was very convincing for me because I don't believe an engine could use the book of another one by random. As your observation isn't valid anymore I can't reproduce any of the other findings because the public versions of Fafis don't support the setboard command. And I'm afraid no one else can who don't has an experimental version of the engine. I think the author can change this situation by releasing a version with the setboard command enabled. OTOH the source code is now inspected (http://f27.parsimony.net/forum67828/messages/1522.htm). I hope we will have a clear result soon. Regards Volker
