For two minutes per move, what is the effect of a 3 piece tablebase on the probability of finding a mate from a random position? For two minutes per move, what is the effect of a 4 piece tablebase on the probability of finding a mate from a random position? For two minutes per move, what is the effect of a 5 piece tablebase on the probability of finding a mate from a random position? If we can calculate any of these, can we extrapolate to the benefit of a 6 piece tablebase? Do we know the answer to these questions? Do we know (roughly speaking) how much time is saved by a table hit? Do we know the probability of a table hit from a random position with 'x' men on the board?
