One other thing comes to mind, but I'm not familiar with Windows 2000. It may
work like Windows XP in this respect, if so...

Set up your computer/software to begin a chess analysis, then lower the process
priority for the chess engine as follows:

 Ctrl-Alt-Delete
 Processes tab
rightclick the engine process that is using most of the CPU time
 select SetPriority, BelowNormal

Then let it run overnight. If this fixes it, there are ways to make this
automatic when you start your chess software.

I do this with both my Shredder 9 UCI and with my Shredder 8 CB GUI's and it
definitely helps the responsiveness of my computer, in general. Otherwise things
can get sluggish, especially when I'm online with a dialup modem. I still have
problems running some other software at the same time (multitasking) if it also
demands a lot of processor time - it doesn't crash the computer, but may run
very slowly.
