I don't understand.  If you start crafty in console mode, and cut/paste your FEN
into the window, Crafty will complain about the position being illegal.  It will
still search it if you tell it to, but it has told you that the position is
bogus.  If you set this position in xboard, it will do the same, although I
don't know what xboard will do with the error message.  But if you examine the
crafty log file, it will clearly have a complaint about the position being
illegal because the side not on move is in check...
