Hello, >>What is unclear when we say, it is clear for us using this illegal and also >>legal positions as a first step to say where engines are comming from. > >Maybe as a first step... This is exactly what we said from the very first moment. > >>program does not understand the rules of chess. > >well, it's your opinion you already know mine ... If it is a chess engine it should play chess. It is not the GUI who is responsible for checking the chess rules. > >>as you can see. But fingerprints are everywhere, nothing can be hidden. > >What I understand it's that a "fingerprint" it's a BIG SET of legal and ilegal >positions aplied to one engine. So you miss to explain how are you going to >compare one fingerprint to another, and how you are going to conclude if they >are the same or if they are not related at all. We always said it is only a first step in detecting similarities. You can test each engine in EACH GUI you may also include console mode and watch for the different error messages which might or might not exsist, depending on the position. >I argue about this with you because i think you (both) try to make people >believe that your method it's conclusive. The "fingerprint" label it's misused >or maybe it's just that you haven't defined it well. This is a forum and not a scientific publication. The method was proven to work a posteriori with all known cloned engines. The test suite only helps us finding the candidtaes faster. >Also since this it's going to be used to accuse someone, i think it's a serious >thing, not a joke. It is not a joke to copy 20-30% of the code and not even mention the original author either. Also iof someone wants to go commercial he should be sincere. Michael
