Go up one level in this thread
No Dan. :-) There is no need to send me the source. Please don't think I was implying anything except in general about the search depth. Normally a blocked position would provide this info. The illegal position (3) has quite a few moves up for consideration (albeit most leading to a dead draw). It stands to reason that 63 is logigical and I only observered that the ply depth maybe erroneously started at 4 in the visual output of the GUI. >You are correct that Bruja will allow position 3. Are you sure it is illegal? >Say I give up my 2 bishops, 2 rooks and queen judiciously so 5 of your pawns >break through the chain. Those 5 march home as do 5 of mine on the vacated >files. We still have 3 pawns each blocked. If you help out with your bishops, >rooks and queen, can we not get the rest of them home? Ummm. I think that only 8 promoted pieces can be theoretically possible (cumulative). I could be wrong, if I am it is 10 for sure (perhaps there is a little help out there on this one, here, but I will check it as well). The position provided is illegal for sure because 8 pawns of each side have got home (in theory). I'll try and contribute any info further up in your new thread if found as this one is going down the page now. :-) Christopher
