Some things like 11 knights or 2 kings of the same color will cause it to go belly up. So I look for those things. But if my board structure will handle it and I can search it without crashing, I don't worry about it even if the position is illegal. I figure the user has some wierd puzzle they want to analyze. If Bruja accepts and searches a position it should produce a reasonable move according to the normal axioms of chess. If you see a case where it does not, that would be of interest to me. Inability to find a mate in 1 would be such a case. Best Dan H.
