Why way too much ?
Please have a look at the opinion of G. Pascutto (message 431352 today) and Dan
Corbit (message 431354) : they completely disagree with you.
Steve Lopez' argument according which too much RAM is bad because of the engine
losing time searching values in empty allocated RAM reserved for the hashtables
always appeared somewhat strange to me considering present speed of memory
access...
At the opposite, too few allocated ram causing swapping is certainly a potential
cause of severe slowing down.
