The point of illegal positions is that they let us know whether the engines understand what is legal or not. If they do not, the code is absent in the engine. It is in the GUI instead. If it is in the GUI it is unfair to all Winboard and UCI protocol engines. It is in fact corrupt if it is allowed. Christopher
