When someone clearly has an axe to grind, it gives me doubts about the complete
fairness of the experiment.  It's rather unscientific to try to prove a
hypothesis by doing an experiment. "Supposedly" the goal is to gather data and
then see if the hypothesis is confirmed or refuted (or indeterminate).

It seems to me that such a mind set could even cause unintentional tainting of
the data.  Perhaps you subconciously forget whose turn it is and run the program
you want to win on the faster machine more often.

At any rate, I question the scientific validity of any experiment where the
experimenter states that they intend to prove a particular outcome even before
they see the data.
