They do this to prove exactly what you are saying. One is Scrappy, owned by Dr. Hyatt. His point by playing only humans with this account is that it's worth about 600 ICC ELO points by doing so. His other account, Crafty, will play anyone at any time. I have had many enjoyable games with Crafty as have hundreds of other accounts, whether human or computer. There are a few other dual account owners like this. Many honest ICC computer accounts have argued the point many times with the ICC owners in that the many !computer accounts will play other computer accounts of their choosing but you cannot play them in return. The management at ICC does not care and you cannot argue the point with them. They simply ignore you and the declining attendance in the ICC computer room indicates a fair amount of disgust with their indifference. However, there are many good, legitimate computer accounts on ICC besides Crafty that will play anyone or anything, at any time, at any game time you wish to play. Blargh is one, Kronos, Bountyhunter, Ajop, X-engine, Yace, Somnus, Thebaron and many many more. Please don't classify them all into the same category as the phony accounts. There are too many good people that operate good, fair computer accounts on ICC. These are the accounts you should seek out to play, not the phony accounts like Beast, Foe-hammer, Duckbreath and many others. Look at their variables and any computer account you see with !computer in it you should avoid. Please note there are a few exceptions mentioned above. Once you are able to sort out the phonys from the good legitimate computer accounts, you can really enjoy yourself. Both ICC and Playchess have their strengths and weaknesses. Once you learn what each one has to offer that pleases you, you can overcome some of your frustration with each site. You also can't compare ELO ratings between sites. Each one has their own formula to determine their ELO points and are completely independent of each other. Playchess has their share of those who take advantage of formulas too. You have a legitimate complaint with the ICC owners but all their computer accounts should not be judged by the opinions of their management. Have fun! DHM
