The Athlon 64 X2 are already available. In Germany for example here:

In the USA most certainly cheaper and in more shops.

I would go for the cheapest X2 that means 4200+, since the other versions are
only 0.2 Ghz faster and Cache is not important for chess performance.

The Athlon64 X2 4200+ should soon be available for 500$ and then it is a good
shot.
