Hi Madhavan, If you look in the thread just below, I've posted all the CM10th settings currently in my tournament. Here are the default settings so that you can compare. [ENGINE] Name=CM10th Default opp=100 opn=100 opb=100 opr=100 opq=100 myp=100 myn=100 myb=100 myr=100 myq=100 cc=100 mob=100 ks=100 pp=100 pw=100 cfd=0 sop=100 avd=0 rnd=0 sel=10 md=99 My ideas are not necessarily the best, but here we go if you're interested! Material values don't need drastic altering, but mine reflect my belief that in computer chess, the queens in particular should be valued more highly than usual. I've valued the queen at 10.7 (pawns at 1.1) Also as a piece is in most case more valuable than three pawns, I value pawmns at 1.1 and minor pieces at 3.4 In computer chess I also believe that in most cases a rook is worth slightly more than minor piece and two pawns, thus my rook value of 5.8 Positional values CM10th gave me the initial impression of being very good at flank play, but control of the centre wasn't valued highly enough. I'd increase both own and opponent's control of the centre, but my how much? Probably to 110 or so. CM10th is quite active, so own mobility shouldn't be increased too much if at all. The opponent's mobility should be increased slightly to restrict his activity, probably to about 110. CM10th's king safety is vastly improved compared to CM9000, so doesn't need to be increased as drastically. Probably 120-140 range. As a competent attacker and because too much emphasis on king attack could detract from other areas of play I'd have opponents king safety somewhere between 100-125. Passed pawns are an area of real intrigue. CM10th doesn't handle the opponents passed pawns as well as it should and sometimes doesn't even handle its own passed pawns well! Therefore I wouldn't place too much extra importance on its own passed pawns (100-110), but motre importance on the opponents (120-150) Pawn weakness isn't too bad and doesn't need too much adjusting, probably between 105-120 for both. Best selectivity seems to be 14. I wouldn't tinker with the material/positional weighting. Some prefer to set the attack/defence setting to a small negative value. This encourages the swapping off of material as opposed to keeping it on the board. It has nothing to do with aggressive/passive play. Hope this helps, Graham.
