I’m presently conducting a research paper about "Chess: Man vs. Computer". If its okay with you, pls. answer the ff. questions and also pls. write your name, designation, and address. 1. Are you playing chess in your computer? (Yes or No) Yes ---------------------- 2. What is the computer chess’ name? (i.e. Chessmaster 6000) Rebel 10, CM6000, Shredder2., And most freeware Winboard Engines ---------------------- 3. How many times did you win and how many times did you lose? Give the ratio of your wins and loses. CM6000 - 1 win, Rebel 10 - 2 wins, Shredder2 - 5 wins, And I have beaten a few times most Winboard freeware engines at 40/2hrs, but have not beaten any commercial programs at faster times controls. But I have with freeware engines. My ratio for beating commercial programs at their best would be, 1:1000 games, as an estimate. Freeware I would say 1:60 games, that excludes crafty which I have not played allot and not beeaten yet. ------------------------------ 4. Which for you is more intelligent in terms of chess based from your experience, man or computer? Why? Humans, because they play with passion and can make moves which programs cannot sometimest, and with most programs they do have weaknesses. ----------------------------------- 5. Computers can now analyze more than a million ways in just a second and most likely a man will be beaten by the computer, does this mean that recent computer chess are far more intelligent than man? No, it may be able to see allot more moves than a human, but is it able to make the best move, maybe mathematically, but tactically and positionally, and mentally to play a specific opponent, I am not so sure. It has its faults. ---------------------------------- 6. Do you think that in the future chess tactics and techniques can be solved completely by computers that even a grandmaster could not beat anymore the computer because it already know what and where to move the pieces? Maybe, maybe in the year 2200, but not in the near future ---------------------------------- 7. Do grandmasters or international chess masters play chess with their computer and were beaten by them? Many play against them, and I would say have been beaten by them, I see many games on ICC where GM's play programs at fast time controls and get their butts wacked. ------------------------------------ 8. For you what kind of opponent do you most prefer in playing chess, a man or a computer, why? I like both, but when you just want a game it is never hard to find one with your computer. But I would prefer to play a human, nothing is better than mentally destroying someone in a game of chess. Thank you for your help. I will very much appreciate it. Sincerely yours, Jeffrey
