Kortchnoi leads at Super-GM in Paks
20.06.2005 He is fifty years older than the average of the other participants,
and older that than almost any three opponents you pick from the field. But
Viktor Kortchnoi is the driving force at the Super-GM tournament in Paks,
Hungary. With 5½/7 points he is poised to chalk up another great victory.

The hero of the event is 74-year-old Viktor Kortchnoi, who is outplaying his
young and super-strong opponents as if they were students of his master-class.
Not springing novelties on them, or whipping them with flashy tactics, but by
grinding them down, slowly pushing them off the board with superiour chess
understanding. We can envision someone like 24-year-old Peter Acs making a
mental note: "Never allow a rook ending against this man – he wins them all."
