Which makes things complicated. It seems that you never have read my proposal on the UCI protocol extension for chess 960. There is no need to change traditional engines at all. The GUI is able to negotiate Chess960 games only between engines, which signalling to be Chess960 aware. Thus only programmers who want to be Chess960 aware have to change their engines. Looking forward to the coming event in Mainz it seems that there would already be about 25 of such future orientated people. >*) Yes I know that Hiarcs was made 960 capable; it won't pay. > >Shuffle chess does not have that problems, and you can be sure that 97% of the >(few) people who actually try this once in a while, absolutely do not care for >that 960 castlings. I do not know how you come to your percentage. Have you ever thought of all the young people who do not want to get familiar with chess more intensiv, because today they regard themself to be forced to learn a lot of books or databases full of opening moves to become able to compete. Thus the huge looking up knowledge is blocking the future of chess practize. >Steve, >who has an original Stetson :-) but never wears it because hats are out of >fashion. Just such individualists like you should be more tolerant towards other such people, especially when the traditional world would stay compatibly untouched. Reinhard.
