You are right that using different comression schemes outperform any one scheme. But a full RAR isn't openly available in source form AFAIK. And using trial and error to find an optimal compression scheme isn't an especially speedy endeavor. So using a compression scheme that is on average superior to any one of the different RAR schemes is to me a no brainer. All that said, I do use the compression scheme I know works best on a particular data set. Like ratDVD for DVD. But then again media compresion doesn't have to be lossless. MvH Dan ANdersson
