Don't let Intels MHz scheme fool you, the AMD chips are largely faster for
chess. I believe Hyatt did some testing a while back where a 2GHz (single cpu)
Opteron in 64bit mode with Crafty was faster than a dual Xeon 2.8GHz.

Also for example, for Fruit v2.1 it would take a Pentium 4 running 4.2GHz to
equal my "old" Athlon XP core at 2.7GHz. An Athlon 64 at 2.7GHz would equal a
P4-4.8GHz (all testing done in 32 bit). Not only are AMD chips faster, the 64bit
implimentation is better than Intels as well.. so if you run a 64 bit program
you'll see more of an increase in performance than on a Xeon/P4. Not only will
it be faster, the Athlon will run much cooler as well.
