Only by reading, changing, and seeing the effects can one fully understand many of these concepts. The issue at hand is the author having any degree of control of the source. If, and I hope it never comes to this, anyone has any doubts about releasing the source code to their project because of worries about unauthorized 'exploitation' of their work, then consider a middle ground. Consider requiring uses to register before downloading. That guarentee's that the user actively agree to a license and that this is one file. Even a nominal fee could be required. I all projects I have done as a hobby, I have always started with source code and always been gratefull to the original author. This invaluable resource cannot just go away without a significant negative impact on the future of this field. What keeps this from being a 'good old boys club' is the easy availability of help and advice and I encourage everyone to oppenly and honestly support it. It works for gnu, It can work here. (Yes GNU has gone to court to defend this positon, unfortunaltely) From a complete beginner's standpoint. My $0.02 William wbryant@ix.netcom.com
