The fun will continue among humans for a long time. Humans will always want to
know who the best human player is, and how they themselves compare to other
humans. We enjoy watching automobile races, but we still love to watch human
footraces.
Computers will become excellent training partners. More chess is being played
now than ever before, and that is partly because of computers.
The only way that humans might stop playing chess is if computers "solve" the
game. But even then, will humans be able to memorize all the required
solutions? Let's say that the "solution" requires a human player to know one
correct response to two reasonable ("solution") opponent moves on an average
turn. And let's say that, on average, a game remains complex for 40 moves.
That means that a human would need to memorize 2 to power of 40 solutions.
Chess will remain a fascinating challenge for humans for a long, long time.
