Hi Reinhard,

Yes, I know the problem. Like you, I happen to like chess variants, and I
have written two chess variant programs (for FRC and hexagonal chess). My
experience is the same as yours: Almost nobody are interested in chess
variants. My FRC engine has been available to the public for about one
year, and so far only one (!) user have been provided me with feedback. In
contrast, the equivalent non-FRC engine is extremely popular, and I still
occasionally receive games and comments from users, despite not having
released a new version since last summer.

The situation for the hexagonal chess program is slightly better, but not
much. It was released a few months ago, and only a handful of users have
contacted me. The sad truth is that the vast majority of users don't care
about anything else than normal chess.

I think the easiest way for you to get lots of feedback would be to release
a special version of your program without any chess variant support, but
with support for the UCI or xboard protocol. I am sure a lot of people
would be very interested.

Tord
