In pondering it depends on how fast your cpu is and what the time controls are in the game. After the computer makes is move it will then start to calculate your best move and its best reply until the humand makes a move or it runs out of time. Thus if you have a time limit of one minute per move and the human only takes 20 or 30 seconds befor he makes a reply then the computer can only 'ponder' for that amount of time. It has nothing to do with the depth that the computer can search as that varies from program to program and depends on the hardware used. Bill
