I was examining an engine vs. engine game a little more in depth with Shredder 9, and Shredder came up with a small little error: Shredder 9.02 UCI - Shredder 9 3r2k1/3r1p2/3P3b/ppB2qp1/4pP1p/PP2Q3/3R2PP/5R1K w - - 0 1 Analysis by Shredder 9: 1. = (0.04): 38.g3 hxg3 39.hxg3 f6 40.Rh2 Rh7 41.b4 axb4 42.Bxb4 gxf4 43.gxf4 Kh8 44.Qb6 Re8 45.d7 2. = (0.04): 38.g4 hxg3 39.hxg3 f6 40.Rh2 Rh7 41.b4 axb4 42.Bxb4 gxf4 43.gxf4 Kh8 44.Qb6 Re8 45.d7 3. = (0.00): 38.Rdf2 gxf4 39.Rxf4 Bxf4 40.Rxf4 Qh5 41.Rxe4 f5 42.Re5 Qd1+ 43.Qg1 Qxg1+ 44.Kxg1 Rf7 45.Rd5 Rf6 4. ³ (-0.35): 38.Bb6 gxf4 39.Qf2 Rxd6 40.Bxd8 e3 41.Rxd6 exf2 42.Rd2 h3 43.Rdxf2 Qd3 44.Bxa5 hxg2+ 45.Rxg2+ Kh7 46.Rgf2 Qxb3 47.Rf3 Qb2 5. ³ (-0.35): 38.Qf2 gxf4 39.Bb6 Rxd6 40.Bxd8 e3 41.Rxd6 exf2 42.Rd2 h3 43.Rdxf2 Qd3 44.Bxa5 hxg2+ 45.Rxg2+ Kh7 46.Rgf2 Qxb3 47.Rf3 Qb2 (, 28.06.2005) In the second variation, White's 38th move is listed as g4, with the continuation being 38...hxg3 --> which is impossible if the pawn is moved from g2 to g4 on move 38. The second variation is identical to the first variation with the exception of the erroneous 38.g4. I'm not knocking the engine - I only post this here because Shredder's author may find it interesting.
