The general concensus is that computer's solved chess when Deep Blue beat Kasparov. This has been discussed to death here in the past. The press in Europe was all over it. The press in North America never made a mention of it. The people involved did not get the same exposure, nor try to make it a daily news type of event. You could have put Anand or even Kasparov in there and the media result would have been the same. Peter
