But I doubt there will ever be a 1996/1997 media frenzy again... 1996/1997 captured the general public's attention much as Fischer/Spassky in 1972 elevated chess to a worldwide publicity level. Notice there has been no more such widely publicized matches since 1972 for human vs human or 1997 for human vs computer. But that this does not mean that chess (man vs machine chess) is dead. It is just not exciting any longer...
