first i thought it was a shredder bug, but its probably more an Arena bug. what happens is this: if you play with shredder 9 (but also with fruit and some other uci engine) with arena against a program with a huge opening book like symbolic, then the engine simply fails to analyze. This is a bug. it is not a user mistake, it looks to me as an Arena bug; if other people notice the same problem then they should report that; to improve the program. its not a bad program Arena but it has bugs its not like Winboard which has been debugged as we all know. now with some tricks like using an uci engine again with winboard you also can use shredder fritz or whatever but maybe better that arena fix their bug jef
