>but I would definitely defer to sales and marketing types and set the priority >of these types of bugs to the lowest priority. That is no suprise where commerce is concerned. The King is slightly different from the other commercial engines in that it can run outside it's own interface. Also the bottom line is that if you sell something it should however do what it says on the tin, or, the customer would have the right to complain. When is the last time you saw Fritz run in a command prompt? The anomolies that we find are clues for us anyway. It is just as well we found out the way engines behave before we told anyone to fix anything. Also, I think it is a false economy to not tell someone that their engine is broke or a chess dunce. I would assume that is how they become better. >There is never enough time to implement >all of the requested features much less the bug fixes, and would you honestly >give this priority over other any other tasks? Yes >How would you sell this to >management? How will this change benefit the end user? I would say that we look stupid if we don't. Because the rules are in place it becomes mush easier to make the engine more versatile. This week it was announced for example that a Chess960 compatible Shredder is going to compete at Mainz. The rules have to be implemented sometime. I would advocate biting the bullet, getting it done and then worring about the precious elo of an engine afterwards. Walk first......then run. Christopher
