Microsoft Virtual PC will allow you to run Windows from within MacOS, although there is a performance hit for doing this. Apple are swithing to Intel chips next year, and you will then be able to run Windows on a Mac, presumably being able to choose between Mac OS X and Windows at boot time. BTW what are the applications you use? - there may well be Mac versions or equivalents. I have made the switch to Mac recently, and I have no regrets. Mac OS X is so much better than XP for the desktop, and the hardware is much nicer too. HTH.
