The human brain has a remarkable ability to find patterns and store them in the memory. This is why world champions still play better than chess softwares. For example, humans have a better evaluation of pawn structures in the game. This was demonstrated in the 3rd game of Kasparov against Deep Fritz 8 and in the game of Rustam Kasimdzhanov against the Fritz 9 prototype. http://www.chessville.com/misc/PsychologyofChessSkill.htm http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=2466
